Rental Revamp: Bathroom
📍 Lévis, QC
Last week I found a listing for a two-bedroom apartment in Lévis, Québec and used Canadian-made and secondhand sourced home goods to redesign the kitchen (for fun).
This week, I redesigned the bathroom to give it some style and personality!
BEFORE:
THE PLAN:
Like many bathrooms, it has no natural light source so I wanted to lean into that and create a darker space. My goal was to modernize the room while maintaining a sort of classic look that still felt like it would flow with the vibes of the kitchen design.
I ‘d remove the little medicine cabinet above the toilet to clean up the wall and cover it with peel and stick tiles to the ceiling to make a dark and unified backdrop, then paint the ceiling and other walls in a matching black paint. With the storage from the medicine cabinet gone, I would put two or three floating shelves on the small wall to the right of the sink to store toiletries.
FLOATING SHELF
Something like this walnut floating shelf would be great.

For the shower, I love the look of two curtain panels to elevate the look and create a nice symmetry. You’d need to add a liner (cut one in half), but I couldn’t find any made in Canada, so I’d at least buy from a Canadian store like Giant Tiger, Canadian Tire, Superstore, or a smaller local store one.
A few pieces can be sourced secondhand to provide charm like the mirror and cabinet handles.
AFTER:
Products used to create this look:
Walls & Ceiling
Express oh! by Hello Paint (BeautiTone), made in Southwestern Ontario
Morocco Zaida Peel and Stick Tiles by Smart Tiles, made in Canada
Callisto Shapes Wall Decals by Urban Walls, made in Canada
Instead of painting, dress up a door with some temporary decals to match your aesthetic— get an single oversize graphic, or do something more subtle like lining the edge of the door with a geometric pattern like I’ve done for this bathroom.
Wash
Faucet by Rubinet, made in Canada / Matte black finish with antique brass matte accent finish
Curtains by Etsy shop LantingCurtains, made in Toronto, ON
Towel bar by Studio Maisonnette, made in Montréal, QC
Prairie Sunflower Hand & Body Lotion by Wild Prairie Soap Company Inc., made in Canada
Pine Soap Dish by l’Olivier Naturals, made in Montréal, QC
Dead Sea Mud & Shea butter Scrub Bar Soap by l’Olivier Naturals, made in Montréal, QC
Hardware & Lighting
Change cabinet knobs/handles to add some personality and reflect your personal style. I’ve done it for every rental place I ever lived since it’s an inexpensive way to dress up a door. I found these vintage pulls to tie in with the warm tones and same colour family as these beautiful sandstone pendants.

Add some charm and unique pieces to your space by sourcing secondhand finds like this antique mirror and ceramic vase from Facebook Marketplace.
Decor:
Art Deco Style mirror from Facebook Marketplace in Québec
The Loo art print by Etsy shop MaplewoodPrints, made in Hamilton, ON
Dandy Diffuser by Milkjar, made in Calgary, AB
Tip: Pick up a bouquet of eucalyptus at your local grocery store or florist, and let it dry out. The colour will change, then it can be used permanently for decor and it gives some nice height!
Some Canadian-made products I currently have in my own bathroom:
Thikk Shampoo and Thikk Conditioner by AG | Care, made in Vancouver, BC
Leather & Oak Liquid Handsoap, made in Canada ❋ I’ve bought this exact soap and others in the same line many times from HomeSense so keep your eyes peeled for the brown bottle and Made in Canada symbol next time you’re there!
Cashmere Toilet Paper, made by Kruger Products in Canada
Crimped Hair and Truth or Dare diffuser by Coal and Canary, made in Winnipeg, MB
Peel and Stick Tiles by Smart Tiles, made in Canada
