Garter ’Round Kids
Kid-focused spaces offer all kinds of opportunity to push your creativity. Designing and decorating a space to reflect young creative minds who are trying to carve out their place in the world can be a whole lot of fun.
Look for ways to involve the kiddos in the process and display their interests— whether it’s a collection of toys and figurines, thematic art and wallpaper, or team memorabilia— find a way to incorporate things that reflect their personality. They may be young, but kids have their own interests and feelings on what is important to them.
Inspired by this pre-pasted garter snake wallpaper by Newfoundland-based designer Kate Golding, I created this space with Canadian-made pieces and secondhand finds to show how fun it can be to put together a space when you abandon the instinct to go matchy-matchy, and instead pursue an eclectic mix of colours, textures and styles.
